First edition of Frank Lloyd Wright's rare pre-war German publication. This rare work contains lithographed plans of Wright's completed projects. The rarity of the publication is due to the unfortunate destruction of many of the American copies in a fire. The work has been described as 'undoubtedly the most beautifully produced publication on architecture in the twentieth century. Using several colours of paper, plus tissue overlays, and several colours of ink, the publisher created a magnificent vehicle for the presentation of the art of Frank Lloyd Wright.

A good copy, some toning to boards and page edges, front hinge cracked and separated from text block at title page but holding to rear hinge, contemporary ownership signature and bookplate to front free endpaper; in a good dust jacket, worn and with chipping to extremities, a triangular chip over the "R" in "Frank" to front panel, with the separated piece laid in to book, splitting to spine and folds, very fragile but intact, free of any repair or restoration.

Publisher's blue-gray and red paper-covered boards; in the original dust jacket, title in white script to front panel and spine, "Anne Frank" in blue, multi-toned gray background. A very good copy, some light spotting to text block edges and endpapers, light sunning to extremities, contemporary inscription to front free endpaper; in a very good dust jacket with early reinforcement jacket almost imperceptibly adhered onto paper, with wear and chipping uniformly to jacket and paper backing , wear and a few short closed tears to extremities, some chipping to spine ends.

In , Otto Frank and his family went into hiding in a secret attic in a factory building in Amsterdam. His youngest daughter Anne passed her time writing, filling a diary and several notebooks with her innermost feelings, reflections of the world around her, daily activities, and dreams for her future.
Though they evaded capture for over two years, the family was eventually discovered by the Nazis, arrested, and deported to concentration camps. After the war, Otto Frank was liberated from Auschwitz; he was the only survivor of the Frank family. When Otto returned to Amsterdam, family friend Miep Gies gave him Anne's diaries, which she had kept hidden after the family was found. This copy bears autograph pencil changes to three pages 53, , : two use proofreading symbols to insert and delete phrases, one corrects a reference to a figure in the text, another a spelling error in an author's name "Mills" corrected to "Mill".
A further fifteen openings carrying marginal pencil side-rules and underlining to the text. Following his master's degree at Northwestern University, George Stigler moved to Chicago in to work on his dissertation under Knight's supervision at the University of Chicago.
The thesis was completed in and published in under the title Production and Distribution Theories. In a memoir entitled Frank Knight as Teacher Journal of Political Economy, Stigler observed that "he was so generous with time and knowledge that some dissertations - I have my own in mind - ought at a minimum to have listed a collaborator".
Stigler remained in contact with Knight after his retirement, and contributed a preface to the Chicago reprint of Risk, Uncertainty and Profit. This copy has passed by descent to the present owner.

Risk, Uncertainty and Profit is Knight's first major work, written as a doctoral dissertation at Cornell in In it Knight advances Richard Cantillon's early treatment of risk in the Essay of the Nature of Commerce, setting forth the two ideas for which he is best known; firstly, the distinction which can be made between economic risk and uncertainty and, secondly, the location of the source of 'profit' in the returns from exposure of business activities to uncertainty.
